![]() ![]() In the rare instance where he survived, then he was worthy. It's likely the only reason they even allowed Azir's ascent (after all the hoops that had to be jumped through) was due to the overseers of the ritual thinking he would die, proving all the reforms were unworthy. I'd assume if any emperor were made Ascended, they'd've had to abdicate the throne, allowing another to take their place in guiding the Empire, whilst the Ascended would become a protector and enactor of that will. Ascension would've been reserved for those who had already proven themselves to Shurima. they are meant to lead Shurima groomed to provide insight and have a mindset that would continuously benefit and improve Shurima.įor another, if it failed, then you'd have an instance where you have to explain away the emperor not being worthy to all those who witnessed. And doubt it would've been allowed in previous eras for two reasons: He is not exactly a nice guy, yet the Aspects decided he is the one that deseved ascension? He also has some questionable quotes in LoR. In the story in the book, he wants to kill the entire village in which Xerath was born. He seems to be just as arogant, and wants to conquer the world just like the rest of them. Then why is Azir special? Why did he succeed. Lets say it's a known fact that Emperors can't ascend and they always die trying. And as I said, I imagine most of them would try it.Īnd Ok. ![]() It's enough that one succeeds, and he would be able to cover the entire hystory of Shurima. If someone rules on average for 20 years, thats about 150 Emperors. Shurima existed for about 3000 years before Azir. And even if most Emperors perish if they try it, it's enoung that one succeeds. And yes Priests are supposed to be choosing who undergoes the ritual, but that didn't to stop Azir from doing it anyway. Surely 9/10 emperors would try it, considering how egocentric they seem to be. So imagine, you are an emperor and your life is comming to an end soon, but there is this ritual called ascencion which has a tiny chance to make you immortal. Shuriman emperors show alot in common with them. Just look at the pyraminds they build to barry themselves. Shurima is based on ancient Egypt, and real emperors were kinda obsessed with the idea of being immortal. Azir would not be dissuaded from his rash course of action, for his arrogance had grown along with his empire, and he ordered them to comply on pain of death. It was for the Sun Priests to decree who would be blessed with Ascension, not the hubris of an emperor to bestow it upon himself. Many questioned this decision the Ascension ritual was highly dangerous and intended only for those near the end of their lives, those who had devoted their lives to Shurima and whose service was to be honored with Ascension. This is the part in the lore that adreses this issue: I was thing why there are no previous ascended Emperors. ![]()
